The Gambia, Seventeen Regional Conference on Enactment of Sustainable Development Goals Decides in Banjul

NEW AFRICA BUSINESS NEWS ( NABN ) Freetown, Sierra Leonne- The GAMBIA, Regional meeting on the commission of Regional of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs); a compilation of seventeen universal objectives constructed to be a ‘blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all have climaxed in Banjul on March 03rd 2020. Fraction of its outcome, the United Nations General Assembly tailor the SDGs in 2015 and been resolved to accomplish them by 2030. The Gambia autographed the SDGs in 2015 and has been doing on the sustainable implementation of the highest level this year.
Director of development planning at the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs – Alagie Fadera announced that the objective of the conference is to have understandings from citizens on some of the achievements of the high-level implementations of the goals.
“The Gambia will present its voluntary national review at the highest level of the political forum in July 2020 and this consultation is part of that process with citizens across all.”
He noted, the perspectives from the consultations have summed up some of the challenges that desire to be dealt with, adding that more sensitization on the public about the SDGs and what they are aimed at is needed.
“The consultation has also implied that, we need to improve the quality of education, increase access to health, medication, quality education of health personnel and also the sustainability on some of the interventions on sustainable development.”
Mr. Fadera stated, the Gambia however, faces poverty as a challenge but the government is doing its best to grasp it as it recognizes poverty as a primary challenge.
Omar Touray – Deputy Mayor of Banjul City Council (BCC) said, there are lot of challenges in fulfilling the SDGs but noted the Finance Ministry is enabling in the accomplishment of the SDGs.
The seventeen sustainable development goals includes; No Poverty, Zero Hunger, Good Health and well-being, quality education, gender equality, clean water and sanitation, affordable and clean energy, decent work and economic growth, amongst many others.
