MP Provides Insurance Coverage to Okada Riders, in Ghana

NEW AFRICA BUSINESS NEWS, Accra- GHANA, OPPOSITION National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Shai Osudoku Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, Ms. Linda Obenewa Ocloo has provided an insurance cover and licenses for 2,500 motorcyclists popularly known as Okada riders in Ghana in her constituency.
The MP said due to the poor nature of roads in the constituency, make Okada an ideal transportation service which facilitates the mobility of the constituents, therefore, the need to secure license and insurance for them as efforts are underway to construct the roads.
She said the insurance is critical due to the accident risk associated with Okada operations in the country to ensure that injured persons are cushioned for their medical bills.

“I took upon myself to secure licenses and insurance for the almost 2,500 Okada riders in this constituency. So far we have provided 500 Okada riders with insurance. The insurance has a cover of GH₡3000 so in case of an accident the person will get insurance cover of GH₡1000 if injured or GH₡2000 if the person unfortunately dies”
The MP revealed this when she threw a party for children, widows and the aged
and other target groups including taxi and Okada riders at her residence in Dodowa to mark the New Year festivity.
The MP who is a widow in addition donated bags of rice, cooking oil, among other items to Widows in the constituency.
She also donated a total of sixteen cows to communities zoned to organize a feast.
“I gave all 16 zones a fat cow each in addition to rice and cooking oil to throw a party to residents in the communities and gave away items worth millions of Ghana Cedis as a way of showing love to the women, the aged and thanking God for the New Year”.
Ms. Ocloo pledge her commitment to improving the living standards of the constituents which she said could be facilitated if John Dramani Mahama wins power in 2020.
