Kenya Underhang SGR Cargo Clearance Order
By Abdul Rahman Suagibu –
NEW AFRICA BUSINESS NEWS, Freetown, Sierra Leone- Government of Kenya temporarily interrupted a directive that cargos from the Mombasa Port to Nairobi be ferried through the Standard Gauge Railway.
This is expected to take effect 7th August, 2019 before the government made a dramatic change of time. The government has allowed different competent authorities to evaluate in on the matter before it can be implemented at the end of the day.
The directive had already commenced, to cause a public disturbance in the transport sector taking into cognizance the number of business person who risk being climaxed out of the market, if the government puts the directive in place as suggested earlier on.
“All imported cargo for delivery to Nairobi and the hinterland shall be conveyed by Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) and cleared at the inland container Depot – Nairobi”.
The decision to root for transportation through this channel was meant to boost the revenues generated by SGR following its construction. Forms that were offering transportation services before the construction of the SGR now feel they are being fought by the government.
