$33 Million Expended by the Government of Zimbabwe through the Zimbabwe National Roads Administration

NEW AFRICA BUSINESS NEWS (NABN) Freetown, Sierra Leone- The administration of Zimbabwe in concert with the Zimbabwe National Roads Administration has disbursed $33 million for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of major roads in Manicaland region. This is being utilized for regular street maintenance, with emphasis being given to the Mutare-Nyanga Road.
Joel Biggie Matiza – Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister, who was sightsee Cyclone Idai Recovery Projects in Chimanimani this week, asserted Government was devoted to exalting the country’s road system and would proceed to subsidize road improvement.
“In the province, there are more works going on,” he stated. “Zinara has released about $33 million to date for roads. The Mutare-Nyanga Road and others will benefit. We also have funding under the Public Sector Investment Programme (PSIP) for the Buhera-Birchenough Road.
“Although we want these roads to be completed as soon as possible, we cannot move as fast as we would have wanted since the country has more pressing matters to deal with due to the Covid-19 pandemic, so funding is limited.”
Engineer Atherton Zindoga – Provincial Roads Engineer clarified that, work on the Mutare-Nyanga Road had already commenced. The Engineer furthered that; they had already gave premium to the road thus, it importance to the Tourism Sector.
“The money released by Zinara is for routine maintenance and we have already started on a portion of the Mutare-Nyanga Road,” the Engineer Zindoga noted.
In addendum, he affirmed that, funds for roads under the PSIP were yet to be released, but once they were approved, roads such as the Birchenough-Murambinda and Nyanga-Ruwangwe would be mended.
Practically, the betterment of Zimbabwe’s road network is a fundamental roadmap to be the envisaged financial workout that is anticipated to navigate the victory of a network on an enormous street rehabilitation in all the regions.
