NEW AFRICA BUSINESS NEWS (NABN) Freetown, Sierra Leone- The Governor disclosed this on Monday 21st, August 2023 in Abuja, during the presumption of office by the new Minister of Agriculture and Food Security – Senator Abubakar Kyari, and his Minister of State Senator Aliyu Abdullahi.

Zulum affirmed assistance for the new Ministers of Agriculture and said that Nigeria has huge arable land with sufficient water bodies. He said he needs to see the Ministry take the challenge to ensure food security comprising availability of food in terms of quantity and quality.

The established palliatives rolled out by the Federal Government would not unravel the crisis of food insecurity and other challenges because it is a short-term solution.

“We must look for medium- and longer-term solutions that would address insecurity and food insecurity in Nigeria.

“Therefore, the only alternative we have is to invest in commercial agriculture, modern agriculture, and irrigated agriculture.

“Also, investment should be made in green technology, emerging technology, harvesting rainwater, and others. That is the only solution.

“Our population is growing in quick geometric direction while our food supply is dwindling, and unless something is quickly done we will never get rid of these problems.

“Therefore, it is my sincere hope that the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security and indeed the technocrats that are here put heads together to reposition the nation’s industry,” he asserted.
