The Liberia Electricity Corporation Stoutly confirmed willingness to expedite Coordination Meeting with Partners in Ghana to retain more Energy Supplies to avert Energy Gap for the next Dry Season

NEW AFRICA BUSINESS NEWS (NABN) Freetown, Sierra Leone- By way of operationalizing this venture, LEC asked that TRANSCO CLSG expedite a coordination meeting with key stakeholders, encircling LEC, VRA, GRIDCo, CI-ENERGIES, and WAPP-ICC. In this regard, TRANSCO CLSG organized a high-level meeting in Abidjan on Thursday, October 3rd, 2024. Chaired by TRANSCO CLSG’s General Manager – Mohammed M. Sherif, the meeting geared to establish the technical and commercial frameworks for wheeling 50MW of power from Ghana to Liberia.
During the meeting, all parties reassured their venture of guaranteeing a steady power supply from Ghana to Liberia, assisting LEC mitigate its dry season energy shortages.
Sherif underscored the importance of the meeting as a vital stride towards fast tracking energy exports from Ghana to LEC. He bekoned
for collective commitment from all parties to assure the delivery of reliable and affordable electricity across the CLSG network and beyond. Sherif same, reckoned the important role of the World Bank, whose financial and technical support has been crucial in navigating the CLSG project.
“The World Bank’s contributions, as one of the main financiers of the CLSG project, have laid the foundation for a reliable and secure energy trade,” Sherif noted. He remarked… in the readiness of TRANSCO CLSG, GRIDCo, and CI ENERGIES to coordinate power transmission across borders, further optimizing the CLSG line for greater efficiency. “This collaboration highlights the importance of regional partnerships in addressing the growing energy needs of our countries.”
Monie R. Captan – CEO of LEC, recognized the current challenges and pin pointed on the crucial role of TRANSCO CLSG and CI Energies in
giving seamless power supply to Liberia. “Success depends on the collaboration of all key stakeholders,” Captain remarked. He same focused on LEC’s ongoing endeavors to curtail commercial losses, improve distribution reliability, and expand generation capacity, enabling the Mount Coffee Hydropower Plant and launching new projects like solar energy and the SP2 power plant.
Captain stated that, utilizing the CLSG transmission network is vital for resolving LEC’s current challenges. “The operation of the CLSG line is important, as it ensures that the network can sustain itself and relinquishes the burden on national budgets,” he stressed, urging all
parties to form a synergy to deliver reliable and affordable electricity across Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea.
