NEW AFRICA BUSINESS NEWS, Banjul, The Gambia- Tourism we all know form almost 25% of the Gambia GDP and serves as a major back bone to the economy. This as a result draw a closer look on the importance of traditional lineage that link with Tourism in the country which is the Baku Kachikally crocodile pool.
The Kachikally crocodile pond is in the heart of BAKAU TOWN about 12 kilometers from the Gambian capital, BANJUL. This place is one of the most famous tourism attraction sites in the country.
The Kachikally crocodile pond occupied a nine acre of land, a Museum complex, a mini forest, a souvenirs shop and a refreshment Bar with an additional car park.
The Kachikally crocodile pool is a sacred place known in the Gambian society for it healing powers. A place thousands of European Tourist visits each year for Tourism attraction. While most indigenous Gambians visits the crocodile site to seek for spiritual blessing based on it cultural heritage.
To most women in the Gambia, the site is also seen as a place women used as a last resort for infertility, most especially for women who wish to conceive. This followed with traditional practices done by a member of the clan that owns the crocodile pool with dancing and drumming.
Based on eye witness account, almost 80% of the people that visits the pool are European Tourists or visitors who usually visit the place as a Tourist attraction site.
The Kachikally crocodile pool is well built with a fascinated entrance that attracts visiting Tourists with crocodiles and other creatures as you make your way towards the nine acre land occupied by the site.
