NEW AFRICA BUSINESS NEWS, GAMBIA, BANJUL- The Southern Casamance Region in Senegal confronted with numerous challenges of wood logging and deforestation which contributed to serious environmental consequences, flooding, soil erosion and even land degradation.
The Continent facing a serious drop in forest preservation. It therefore become incumbent on the Leaders to play a key role in preserving the forests or May poses a great threat to the environment and the climate which in turn affects the societies and the human development.
The sad part of it is that, deforestation occurs mainly as another form of menial income generation such as the burning of woods for charcoal which support a high number households. while major timbers are packed for export to the Western world at the expense of our people in Africa by certain class of business men in connivance with the central government.
In lieu of all this, the southern region of Casamance is completely deprived and faced with serious devastation and lacks major basic amenities despite the region serves as a potent source of support towards the development of Senegal.
With environmental calamities taking a central stage, the government of Senegal must act responsibly to avert future consequences.
