NEW AFRICA BUSINESS NEWS, Banjul, Gambia- The 47 years old son of former Senegalese President Abdulaye wade was granted Presidential pardon by the current President Macky Sall who was imprisoned for embezzlement and corruption of state funds.
During his father’s Leadership role from 2000 to 2012. Karim Wade held numerous Ministerial positions from Infrastructure, Energy, Aviation and transportation. As well as over saw many lucrative projects.
When his father lost the 2012 Presidential polls on a run off. The new Leadership of President Macky Sall rose victorious and launched an investigation on Karim Wade past activities while serving in various capacity and who was seen as the heir to replace his 95 years old father for charges of illegally amassing millions of dollars from state fund wired to an off shore account in Panama.
Despite all efforts by his lawyers, he was eventually charged and found guilty for corruption and embezzlement and imprisoned for six years. He served just three years when president Macky Sall released him and was immediately flown to Qatar . Though granted pardon he was still requested to pay fine.
Karim Wade is said to be a divisive political figure in Senegal politics with a huge support base already built by his father who is highly determine to take the Leadership mantle in Senegal.
