NEW AFRICA BUSINESS NEWS, BANJUL, THE GAMBIA- SANNA SABALLAY, The Former Vice Chairman of the Provisional Ruling Council and strong architect of the 22nd July, 1994 coup which brought down the then PPP government of Ex president Jawara from power testified before a group of Legal Experts at the on going TRUTH RECONCILIATION AND REPARATIONS COMMISSION in the Gambian capital Banjul, which took him two days sitting.
Former junta strong man gave a precise story of his role in the successful coup plotted against the former PPP government of Ex president Jawara and his sad end with Jammeh, other Council members and his subsequent imprisonment for almost ten years with hard labor, tortured and further disclose the sad ordeal surrounded the death of his close colleague and prison inmate SADIBOU HYDARA.
SABALLAY went further and testified to the commission over the role he played in most of the execution or death of soldiers in the Gambia before his sad end with YAHYA JAMMEH. A role he openly confessed and admitted with candor, bravery and courage and accepted responsibility.
On his second day sitting of the commission. SABALLAY disclosed key perpetrators like Edward Singateh, Yakuba Touray, Alhaji Martin and others taken part in most atrocities and also part of the team of those that caused so much pain not only to him but other colleagues in the Gambia Military who met their sad end during JAMMEH reign in power for 22 years. Mass graves of which was exhumed in the deep forest of FARATO and beyond .
SABALLAY left no stone unturned in dispelled the truth and his sad ordeal to the world and the Gambian people over all the killings he played a key role. And further thank the TRRC for giving him the mandates for telling his country men and women the true side of his story and beg for forgiveness.
Currently based in Germany and practiced as a Medical Doctor. SABALLAY took it on himself to voluntarily come to his country and testify and ask for forgiveness
A prudent role many Gambians could described as honest, frank and sincere and later hailed by many as a TRUE HERO of the Gambia.
