South Africa’s gospel artist Neville D says he is optimistic about the Grammy nomination.
He is one of three South Africans nominated and the only gospel artist in the list of nominees,for the 58th Grammy Award.
“To be nominated as the sixth South African in the last 58 years for a Grammy – I realised, I have already won. I have won you know, “ Neville said.
Neville D. sees the nomination as a dream come true and has expressed gratitude to his family members and friends who contributed in making him great.
“I know so many of my friends who have either died or are in gangs or went to prison and so on and so forth. I think for myself I had a mother who really kept us in check. Just because you live in the Cape Flats does not mean you have to be a gangster automatically,” Neville added.
Neville expressed optimism about winning and attending the ceremony both as a nominee and a fan.
“We are going for the pre Grammy, the actual Grammy, for the after party, and anything else, we are going to camp out on the red carpet.” he said.
Neville was born in Cape Town, and started playing the guitar at age twelve.
He later started writing for other artists as well being a judge for gospel reality competitions.
The Grammy Award presented by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences honours talent in the music industry and dates back to 1959.
This years Grammy is slated for February 15, 2016.
