Paris – Algeria star Riyad Mahrez stayed top of the English Premier League scoring chart with a weekend goal that salvaged a 1-1 draw for Leicester City against Tottenham Hotspur.
The 24-year-old France-born winger raised his goal tally to four from three league matches by equalising a minute after Spurs had taken the lead
African stars in the Premier League:
RIYAD MAHREZ (Leicester City)
Leicester had just fallen behind at the King Power Stadium when Mahrez picked the ball up wide on the right, stepped inside Jan Vertonghen and bent a left-foot shot around Hugo Lloris.
BAKARY SAKO (Crystal Palace)
Sako crowned his Palace debut in style by netting a late winner at home to Aston Villa. The Mali forward, who joined Palace after leaving Wolverhampton Wanderers, earned Alan Pardew’s men a 2-1 victory in the 87th minute at Selhurst Park with a composed left-foot finish after Villa left-back Jordan Amavi had been caught in possession.
MAME BIRAM DIOUF (Stoke City)
Senegal striker Diouf scored his second goal in two games with an early header in his side’s 1-1 draw at promoted Norwich City. The former Manchester United player met Stoke debutant Xherdan Shaqiri’s 11th-minute free-kick from the right with a stooping header.
CHEIKHOU KOUYATE (West Ham United)
Kouyate scored his second goal of the season at home to Bournemouth, but it proved in vain as Slaven Bilic’s side went down 4-3 against the promoted team. The Senegalese midfielder made it 2-2 in the 53rd minute, following up to score after Diafra Sakho’s shot had been parried by Artur Boruc, but subsequent goals from Marc Pugh and Callum Wilson, who scored a hat-trick, gave the visitors victory and rendered Malian striker Modibo Maiga’s late effort immaterial.
YAYA TOURE (Manchester City)
Toure produced his second assist in two games to rubber-stamp a 2-0 win at Everton that sent the 2014 champions back to the top of the table. The Ivory Coast midfielder was involved in a one-two with Samir Nasri, who gathered his return pass and dinked a shot over Tim Howard.
