Cape Town – Newly appointed Zimbabwean Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko has reportedly praised President Robert Mugabe, describing him as a “fountain of wisdom”.
According to the News Day, Mphoko, who was recently appointed as one of the two vice presidents of Zimbabwe after the sacking of Joice Mujuru, said Mugabe was full of wisdom, adding that wisdom was the “prerogative of age”.
Mugabe turns 91 next month and is currently on holiday with his family in the Far East.
Pictures of the Mugabes on holiday recently emerged on social media, causing outrage amongst some Zimbabweans who questioned why the First Family was on an expensive holiday at a time when millions of people back home endured one of the country’s worst festive seasons ever.
According to a Daily News report, observers said the pictures suggested that the First Family did not care much about the suffering of the people.
The festive season was lost to many in the country, with civil servants, who form the bulk of those still formally employed in Zimbabwe failing to get the promised 13th cheque, the report said.
