U.S. presidents—they’re just like us!
While attending the United Nations General Assembly last month in NYC, President Barack Obama had his credit card declined at a local Big Apple eatery (seriously)! POTUS revealed the embarrassing story Friday while signing a new order calling for tighter debit card security and enhanced federal measures to help victims of identity theft.
“I went to a restaurant up in New York when I was, during the U.N. General Assembly, and my credit card was rejected,” Obama told reporters in Washington, D.C. today.
According to Obama, who was dining with wife Michelle Obama at the time of the incident, he tried to convince the waitress his card worked. “I was trying to explain to the waitress, you know, I really think that I’ve been paying my bills,” Obama said. “Even I’m affected by this.”
“It turned out, I guess, I don’t use it enough,” he went on. “So they thought there was some fraud going on.”
He added, “Fortunately, Michelle had hers.”
