The Senior Pastor of Fountain of Life Church, Pastor Taiwo Odukoya, has urged the church to take up responsibility as the vehicle of change and development in Nigeria.
Odukoya spoke at the launch of Fountain Initiative for Social development (FISD) in Lagos, insisting that the church in performing its role, must impact on its immediate community.
He said in the past 20 years, the Fountain of Life Church had invested significantly in working in underdeveloped communities, creating jobs and businesses, providing affordable healthcare, supporting students to reach their academic dreams and providing lifelong skills.
The cleric urged Nigerians to begin to do something wherever they found themselves, explaining that it was only when they were able to do this that the desired change would come.
He said despite challenges facing the country, which had prompted people to predict doom for the country, the nation remained great.
Explaining the coming of FISD, Pastor Odukoya said to meet societal needs, “we need to transform from ministry or individual to an institution and the vision is to equip people to realize their potentials.”
He called for synergy between churches and mosques to change the country, adding that; “the magnitude of the ever-increasing needs in many communities and the inability of the church to meet these needs alone was the impetus for the creation of FISD.”
Earlier, Pastor Odukoya lamented the inability of the aviation authorities to come out with the actual cause of the crash involving his late wife, Pastor Bimbo, saying his wife would not have died if the church had acquired a private jet that would fly her around to destinations of evangelism.
