The Authority of ECOWAS Heads of State has announced the establishment of the Solidarity Ebola fund and appealed to Member States as well as the International Community to contribute to the fund.
According to the communiqué released after the the ECOWAS Summit in Accra, Ghana on Thursday, the Summit commended Nigeria’s contribution of $3,500,000 as follows: $1,000,000 to Guinea, $500,000 to Liberia, $500,000 to Sierra Leone, $500,000 to WAHO and $1,000,000 to the ECOWAS Pool Fund for Ebola.
They expressed worry over the continuous threat of the Ebola disease in the region, which has so far claimed about 500 lives and condoled with the Governments and people of the affected Member States.
The Authority directed the ECOWAS Commission, in liaison with the West African Health Organization (WAHO), to adopt a regional approach towards containing and managing the Ebola outbreak.
