The Ivorian international striker, Didier Drogba, has signed a one-year contract with Chelsea finalizing his sensational return to London, club officials said Saturday. Drogba’s move came barely a week after Coach Jose Mourinho hinted that he could come over as a player/coach.
The Ivorian star has been a free agent after his contract at Galatasaray ended last season.
Chelsea manager, Jose Mourinho, insists he wants Drogba’s experience in the squad following Ashley Cole and Frank Lampard’s departure to New York City Club (MLS) in the USA.
Despite a string of advances from several big European clubs indicating their interest in buying him, Drogba maintains he is keen to link up again with his former club – Chelsea.
The 36 year striker had spent eight fruitful years between 2004 – 2012 scoring 157 goals and on his return, he said: I’m here to win trophies!
