Clashes involving farmers and herdsmen in Tiebele in South-Central Burkina Faso have claimed the lives of five and injured eight people, according to the official news agency (IAB). The incident took place on Monday night in Ideniakora village near the border with Ghana, the agency said without giving details of the reason for the conflict.
Those injured were rushed to Po province for medical attention while a local authority mission led by the governor of Central-South Regional, Laurent Lamine Traore visited the scene of the incident in a bid to restore calm in the village.
Security has been beefed up in a bid to forestall further violence.
In March 2012 a deadly conflict linked with the traditional leadership had been ignited in Guenon village not far from Ideniakora in which a dozen people were killed and materials destroyed.
