Mali is raring to purchase military hardware from France with support from the Gulf state of Qatar, a source close to the presidency in Bamako has disclosed. The announcement comes as Mali’s President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita took part in the US-Arab World Forum being held in Doha, Qatar.
President Keita is scheduled to meet Qatari Sheikh His Highness Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani on the sidelines of the forum, the Malian source indicated.
Talks between the two leaders will mainly revolve around the long-awaited purchase.
However, the Malian official did not elaborate on the kind of military gears his country will be acquiring from France.
With their acquisition, the West African country will be in good stead to defend itself and protect its territorial integrity which in recent years has been undermined by the activities of armed movements based in the north of the country.
