Ghana’s Youth and Sports Minister Elvis Afriyie Ankrah has announced that the state could only sponsor 500 fans to Brazil to support the Black Stars of Ghana.Speaking at a press conference in Accra on Monday, Afriyie Ankrah said the state was spending US$6,000 on each fan for accommodation and meals and that the total amount was US$3 million.
In the 2006 World Cup in Germany, 2000 fans were sponsored while 8,000 were also sent to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa to bolster support for national team.
Ghana is participating in the Brazil World Cup alongside other African teams from Algeria, Cameroun, Nigeria and Cote d’Ivoire.
